DB E.C.O. North America is hiring a Junior Rail Service and Operations Planner to join our Los Angeles and/or San Francisco team and help shape the future of passenger and freight rail in North America. This role is ideal for someone with strong quantitative skills, an eye for detail, and a passion for transit and rail.
You will work closely with senior planners and project managers to support service and operations planning projects, using industry-leading tools. Your work will include developing service concepts and timetables, analyzing operational scenarios, creating visual dashboards, and producing clear, compelling materials for client presentations.&nbsp;
This is a great opportunity to build technical expertise, learn from experienced industry professionals, and contribute to projects that deliver real-world improvements to rail service and infrastructure.
Tasks &amp; Responsibilities:&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Support service and operations planning projects for passenger and freight rail clients.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Develop and evaluate service concepts using Viriato (static timetable modeling) and validate scenarios with RailSys, Treno, RTC, etc (dynamic simulation).&nbsp;</li>
<li>Manage and interpret infrastructure data to assess capacity and asset performance.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Prepare clear, visually compelling outputs in Tableau, including dashboards and charts for internal and client use.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Organize and maintain project workflows, client infrastructure datasets, and technical documentation using project management databases (e.g., Notion). Conduct quantitative analysis, ridership and operations modeling, and GIS-based mapping to inform decision-making.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Draft technical reports, presentation materials, and client deliverables with a high standard of accuracy and story lining clarity.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
Requirements:&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in engineering, transportation planning, political science, geography, urban planning, data analytics, applied mathematics, or a related field.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Demonstrated interest in rail or transit systems through coursework, research, internships, or professional experience.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with proficiency in data analysis and visualization.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Familiarity with tools such as Viriato, RTC, RailOscope, Tableau, Notion, ArcGIS/QGIS, Python, R, or SQL (training provided as needed).&nbsp;</li>
<li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environment.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
Working Conditions and Travel: 
Minimal overnight travel by land and air.&nbsp;
